Crockpot Sesame Chicken Recipe

A plate of crockpot sesame chicken on a wooden table

Sticky sesame chicken from a restaurant is hard to beat, but the slow cooker version is just as satisfying at home. These crockpot sesame chicken thighs cook in soy sauce, honey, and sesame oil until the glaze clings to every piece.

Perfect for busy weeknights, this Crockpot recipe allows you to set it and forget it, resulting in a satisfying dish that pairs well with rice or steamed vegetables.

Easy Crockpot Sesame Chicken Recipe

This recipe features chicken thighs simmered in a sweet and savory sesame sauce made from soy sauce, honey, garlic, and sesame oil. It takes about 6-8 hours to cook on low and serves 4 people.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger grated
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (for thickening)
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds for garnish
  • Chopped green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Sauce: In a bowl, mix together soy sauce, honey, sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger.
  2. Add Chicken: Place the chicken thighs in the Crockpot and pour the sauce over them, ensuring they are well coated.
  3. Cook: Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours until the chicken is tender and cooked through.
  4. Thicken Sauce: About 30 minutes before serving, stir in the cornstarch mixture to thicken the sauce. Cover and continue cooking.
  5. Serve: Once done, shred the chicken with two forks and mix it with the sauce. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions before serving.

I scatter toasted sesame seeds and sliced scallions over the top before serving. The sauce gets stickier as it cools, which makes the leftovers excellent over leftover rice.
